Xiamen University, located in Xiamen, Fujian province, is the first university in China founded by overseas Chinese. Before 1949, it was originally known as the University of Amoy. The university is one of many comprehensive universities directly administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education. In 1995 it was included in the list of the "211" Project for the state key construction; in 2000 it became one of China’s higher-level universities designated for the state key construction of the 985 Project.
In 1919, Mr. Tan kah kee, the well-known overseas Chinese leader, donated millions of dollars to establish and endow Xiamen University, officially founded in 1921. It is regarded as one of the most prestigious and selective universities in China.
Mr. Tan handed over Xiamen University to the government in 1937 due to lack of funds, and the institution subsequently became a national university.
In 1938, at the outbreak of the Second Sino-Japanese War, the university temporary relocated to Changting in Min Xi county, western Fujian.
At the end of World War II in 1946, Xiamen University moved back to Xiamen and resumed normal operations.
In 1952, Xiamen University became a comprehensive university, and has been designated as a national key university since 1962. Then, in 1952 it became a comprehensive university embracing both arts and science. In 1963, it was designated as a state key university. In 1995, it was included in the list of the "211 Project" for the state key construction; in 2000, it became one of China’s higher-level universities designated for the state key construction of the "985"Project.

The University has a total campus area of over 538 hectares. The Main Campus on Xiamen Island has an area of 167 hectares; the Zhangzhou Campus is 171 hectares in area; and the Jimei Campus has an area of 200 hectares. Xiamen Universitys main campus is located in Siming District, southwestern Xiamen.
Located at the foot of the green mountains, facing the blue ocean and surrounded by Xiamen bay. With green hills behind and the sea close by, the three campuses are set amidst delightful scenery and are generally recognised as one of the most beautiful campuses in China. the university also has campuses at Jimei and Zhangzhou. The Xiamen campus of Xiamen University is remarked as "the most beautiful campus in China". Another is the South Hall, which faces the sea and looks very impressive. It is an important meeting and entertainment center of Xiamen University. Standing in Song en downstairs, in front of the beautiful Hibiscus lake, the lake carved on the stone "self-improvement" four characters, I quickly asked Dad to take pictures of me.

Summer vacation! I can go to xiamen to play! It turned out that my parents had planned this summer vacation to take us to xiamen and booked the tickets. When my sister and I heard this exciting news, we couldnt sleep all night, and we couldnt wait to go to xiamen now.
The long awaited trip to xiamen came to our family happily and boarded the plane. After a few hours, we finally arrived in xiamen, we heard that xiamen is smaller than our hangzhou. It was evening when we arrived, so we went straight to the famous pedestrian street. The walking street is so full of everything, everything is there, and it is not hot at all, all kinds of trinkets, different sizes of restaurants, I am dazzled!
Then we walked to the beach and blew the sea breeze.
The next day, we went to hulishan fortress to watch all kinds of cannons, and I was shocked by the cannons of one platform. The old guns in ancient times were like this! Having visited hulishan repelled since afternoon, then we go to the seaside to swim directly with mom, the waves of the ups and downs, we enjoy the water play, pick up shells, before you know it is late afternoon. Now I just know, xiamen have a seal of the original, is very popular in the whole xiamen, because xiamen is small, so, to get the book, it will write which shop can knock chapter, a knock, home as a souvenir, we can also knock.
In the end, we went to the most famous gulangyu island in xiamen, where we sat in a speedboat and ran amok on the boundless sea.
